Charoite
Charoite is sometimes called the lilac stone. It is found in only one area in Siberia, Russia. Though reportedly discovered in the 1940s, it was not known to the outside world until its description in 1978. The name is derived from the Charo River which is near where it was found.
Charoite is lavender to purple in color with a pearly luster. It has an unusual beautiful swirling, fibrous appearance, that, along with its intense color, can lead many to believe at first that it is synthetic or enhanced artificially. But it is totally natural! Charoite makes wonderful jewelry as natural purple stones are so rare. So far, gemologists have not been able to ascertain the exact chemical or structural reason for its purple color.
Exotic purple adds mystery and richness to the palette, and can be incorporated with other colors to create a number of powerful combinations. Pair the elegant shade of purple with emerald green for a regal disposition, or spirited red for an expressive and dramatic look. It also pairs well with grey, black and blues such as denim.
