How To Sell Jewelry

Do You Have Unwanted Turquoise Jewelry You Need or Want to Sell?

We receive many emails every week from individuals just like you who want to know how to sell their turquoise jewelry.  They have squash blossom necklaces, bracelets, rings, buckles, bolo ties, watches and more that they have purchased over the years or have inherited and no longer want.  Native American Market can show you how to sell jewelry on consignment, but we have compiled a list to help you understand what all your options are.

6 Ways To Get Cash For Your Unwanted Jewelry

1) Offer to sell jewelry for sale to relatives, friends and acquaintances, or business associates.  Preferably these are individuals with whom you have a trusting relationship with. There is no middle man so selling one-on-one like this may help you to receive a fair price that will be more than what you would get selling it to a retailer or at auction.

2) Run an advertisement in your local newspaper.  Follow the safely rules spelled out at the bottom of this page, because regrettably you could be contacted by individuals attempting to obtain your items by deceit. Never turn anything over until you verify that you have, in fact, been paid. Thieves who steal by fraud are often practiced and very good at what they do.

3) List your item or items on eBay or Craig's List.  Take good digital pictures to include with the description.  Pictures really are worth a thousand words.  To get the best price for jewelry on eBay, you must be an expert photographer.  It takes a good camera, a knowledge of proper lighting and more to get the best pictures to sell jewelry.

4) The worst place you could your sell jewelry to is at a pawn shop.  You'll be lucky to be offered 10 cents on the dollar.  Don't be surprised if you are only offered "scrap" value.  This alternative should only be considered as an act of desperation!

5) You could offer to sell jewelry to a reputable jeweler for purchase.  But don't expect anything near the retail value of your item.  Surprisingly, attempting to sell your jewelry to a jewelry store is one of the worst alternatives available to you, and this is why:

In most cases, a jeweler has the resources to buy a piece of jewelry very similar to yours at a wholesale cost. So why would a jeweler or any other business person even offer as much as wholesale for a previously owned item?

Unfortunately, the price you paid for the item, or the appraised value of the item, is usually not that important to a jeweler. The piece is primarily going to be evaluated based on what the item would cost at wholesale.  However, if you need to make a quick sale, and you are willing to take a steep cut in price compared to what you paid for it, you can be paid on the spot in cash or company check.

6) Place your jewelry on consignment with a reputable jeweler.  Consignment will typically result in you receiving 50% to 70% of the selling price when the item sells.   A jeweler already has jewelry clients and is able to accept credit card sales.   Many people prefer this method simply because they don't have to worry about security or deal with potential buyers.

At Native American Market, we can photograph your jewelry and sell it on the web to a national market, plus we offer a low consignment fee of only 30%, with you receiving 70% of sale proceeds*.  We take care of everything - the photography, pricing, buyer questions, credit card transactions, boxing, shipping and insurance.  We offer a quick sale at auction, or we can leave it on the web for 30 days for a potentially higher profit.

In summary: You are likely to receive the most money for any jewelry item you have to sell by: 1) selling it on your own to another individual, or 2) consigning with a reputable jeweler.

We wish you success with your jewelry sale and hope this page has been interesting, informative, and helpful to you.

PLEASE NOTE: If you decide to follow any of the first three alternatives , make sure that you never give or list your personal address to anyone who does not already have that information.   Definitely not to strangers, no matter how warm and friendly they may seem.  If the location of your jewelry is requested, never tell them.  You could also say that your jewelry is kept at a bank or other secure location.  NEVER tell anyone that it is kept where you live.  If someone expresses interest in your item(s), arrange to show your item(s) at a bank or other public place. Your safety and security should always be your primary concerns.
