BUC-WATER-BIRD The buckle demonstrates beautiful artistic expression. It features a turquoise and coral chip inlay Water Bird. in one corner is a sun symbol made of needlepoint turquoise; the other side features two leaves. Thus you have the symbols of the sun, rain, and food sustaining life. This buckle is a one of a kind work of art. In the tradition of the Pueblo Peoples of the American southwest, Water Birds are a symbol of the renewal of life, the rain and rivers that feed us. While it is often called a Peyote Bird, they are two different symbols. The Peyote Bird is a figure of the snake bird or water turkey, and is the symbol of the Native American Church and the ritual use of peyote there by the church members. The expansion of the Native American Church to many regions has also brought about the widespread of the use of the peyote bird as a symbol by many Native American artists regardless of their tribal affiliation or geographical location. The back is stamped sterling but is unmarked as to
the maker. Circa 1970's. Size is 2 3/4" by 2 1/4" and will
accommodate a belt 1 1/2" wide.
